Build language skill through real-world reading

ABOUT ME

Bridging the Gap: Why I Built InfoInMyLang

My fascination with bilingual and multilingual individuals has been lifelong. Growing up in the early 1970s, I was fortunate to join a pilot program that introduced Spanish to native English-speaking students. Though brief, it sparked a desire in me to learn another language—one that has never faded. Back then, practical ways to study, learn, and practice were scarce, and multilingualism wasn’t a priority in the U.S.

Today, we’re surrounded by resources and tools that make language learning accessible to anyone willing to try. Yet when I decided to deepen my own language skills, I discovered a frustrating gap: I wanted to learn by reading real things—not children’s stories, not artificial learning passages, and not material that swung wildly between too easy and impossibly hard.

I wanted short, authentic articles that were challenging but readable. Content that felt like the real language while remaining usable as practice. I couldn’t find a site that consistently offered that experience, so I built one.

InfoInMyLang exists to bridge those gaps that once held people like me back. By combining current, newsworthy topics with level-appropriate content, this platform immerses you in the language while keeping you informed about global events. My mission is simple: to support learners with engaging material that makes the journey both productive and enjoyable, while honoring the authenticity of real-world language.

Grow in your learned language proficiency by reading.

Research consistently shows that reading is one of the most effective ways to build language proficiency, especially when learners engage with material at their current reading level. By focusing on brief, level-appropriate current events and culturally relevant articles, you can make steady progress toward fluency. This approach exposes you to real-world language, deepening your understanding of vocabulary, sentence structure, and cultural nuances.

Studies, such as those from Language Learning and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), highlight that level-aligned reading materials enhance both comprehension and retention. When learners read content that is approachable yet challenging, they build confidence naturally. They recognize familiar words while gradually acquiring new ones in context. This approach, known as “comprehensible input,” a term introduced by linguist Stephen Krashen, emphasizes learning through material that is understandable but still pushes a learner’s abilities.

With InfoInMyLang, you’ll access relevant, engaging content crafted for various reading levels. Each article provides practical, accessible material that informs and reinforces essential language skills. With regular practice, you’ll find yourself understanding more and speaking with greater confidence—one article at a time

Philosophy

I believe language and culture are inseparable. When we learn a language, we gain insights into the cultural heritage, values, and perspectives that shape it. We acquire more than just new words—we begin to see the world as others do, opening ourselves to the richness and diversity of human experience.

This understanding forms the heart of InfoInMyLang. Language grows through exposure to meaning. Reading real content—authentic articles about the people, events, and ideas that matter in a culture—provides that exposure in a way exercises and drills cannot. Regular contact with real language, even in small amounts, builds intuition, vocabulary, and confidence over time while deepening your connection to the culture itself.

Learning about each other’s cultures nurtures understanding and empathy, which leads to genuine compassion. This compassion forms the foundation for loving and appreciating our fellow human beings, transcending boundaries and differences. Inspired by John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another,” our mission is rooted in fostering connections through language and culture.

Language learning is more than an academic pursuit; it’s a journey toward empathy, respect, and a deeper commitment to uplifting each other. At InfoInMyLang, we provide level-appropriate access to real-world content so you can engage with authentic language while building genuine understanding of the cultures behind it. We hope that as you explore language, you’ll feel a growing connection to the people and cultures that make our world so beautifully diverse.
